The last couple months I have been in a bit of a knitting lull. I’ve started several projects only to lose interest and frog or just put the project to the side. I just couldn’t get excited–I wasn’t inspired by anything.
And then, about a week ago, I got my hands on a copy of this book:

Japanese Inspired Knits
I want to knit EVERYTHING in this book. Okay, not everything but close. First there is this sweet cardigan:

the fan
and this pretty fair isle:

summer in tokyo
I love, love, love, this cardigan coat:

flower buds
and finally, this clever tee:

the carp
While the one I am most excited about is “flower buds”, I thought I would first start with something a little more season appropriate.
beginnings of “the carp”
I love it! I have never knit a sweater this way before, all in metered squares. You basically knit it in stripes–such an interesting way to construct a garment. I am excited to see how it all fits together. Here is a close up:

The lighter yarn looks a little more green in person but I like the slight blue cast of it. Why my knitting mojo had to come back in force when I should be spending all my time packing boxes, I don’t know. I guess that is just the way it goes.
Okay, back to kni…ur, packing.
Who worries about a little thing like packing? I KNOW I don’t…
SO knit away!
oh wow, that carp tee looks phenomenal. I love those squares- what a unique construction!!
Those are exciting designs, and I look forward to following your newly started knit! Good luck with move and new job!
That does look a lovely book. Do you have to sew all the stripes together? Good luck with the packing.
What an interesting knit. The colors are really nice together. Good luck with packing and moving. Enjoy your knitting in between all that!
I love the mitred squares – it’s going to look amazing when you finish! I’ve heard the Stash and Burn girls going on about Japanse knitting patterns before but never actually seen any for myself, so thanks for sharing these pictures. They look really different and exciting.
these are all gorgeous! although there is no way you could wear that sweater in a Tokyo summer. i get hot just thinking about it! (and i never get hot, if you’ll remember.)
speaking of remembering …. remember how i get to see you in a WEEK? i remember.
ooo– I love the fair isle! Come teach me how to do that when you get here–k?
can not wait to see how the carp turns out! Really neat construction.
Knitting is way more fun than packing!!!
I really like that book too. I was surprised at how many designs in the book I liked. Good luck with the knitting/packing.
It looks like it will be another darling sweater.
The carp looks very pretty. I like your choice of colours – I also admire your photography, I never seem to be able to achieve such perfect close ups.
Good luck with your move and your new job.

Oh wow! The book must be wonderfull!!!
I realy like “the fan” and “summer in tokyo”
Oh every time whene I look into your blog I am dreaming that I also could knit such great things and that I am not so slow, like I am.
And no, I am realy slow. It takes me three years to knit the front from a pullover.
So till then I am wathing your projects. Good luck vor “the carp”!!!
