I don’t know what my deal is these last few weeks. No inspiration. Period.
I can’t think of anything to blog about. I have no lasting interest in any knitting project. I think about cooking or attempting to sew or organizing one of the many things I have to organize but then lose interest the minute I have the time to actually do something. I must be in a mood.
I am not sure what brought this on. The internet has kind of been stressing me out lately. I am a member of around 15 online communities. I have 5 email addresses. I subscribe to 206 blogs. I just can’t keep up. It is not like this is new but for some reason lately, I feel overwhelmed.
So I decided I needed to post to give myself a little jump start. Here are some random quickies about my life:
- I have some trips coming up. Next week I go to Utah for some much desired family time. The following week I am in the San Fransisco area for a conference. Then in May comes the big trip. I will be joining sister Kara for 17 days of travel in London, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Paris. I have been to London before but none of the other places. I don’t think I can express how excited I am for this trip. The fact that I get to experience it all with my very much missed and much beloved sister is like the best kind of icing on the cake.
- Sometimes I daydream that while in London I will meet London Calling Bachelor Matt. I quite like his cheeky British self.
- Why did no one tell me about how good Buffy the Vampire Slayer is until recently? I am on season 3, thanks Netflix (and Ashley for inspiring me to put it in my queue.)
- For all you Mac users, does anyone else use your photo booth as a mirror?

- Is is just me or do my hands look HUGE in this picture? Also, I am not possessed, trust me, I am just trying to figure out this hat I started. It is a slouchy hat and I am trying to determine if I casted on the right number of stitches. I suspect I might have cast on too many but am thinking that with a little elastic at the hem I might be okay. I don’t know, this little debate is making my interest in this project wane a bit. But I do want to knit it so we shall see…
So there you go, a wee little look into my life. Now I really should go catch up on blogs, email, Ravelry, Facebook, Flickr, etc. But then again, maybe tomorrow. At least I updated my blog eh? Baby steps.
Photo Booth = mirror ALL THE TIME. Great minds, eh?
You sound a teensy bit depressed. The travels will do you good.
xoxo
Wow! That is a lot of travel. Have fun and take lots of pics. I find that getting out of my element and going somewhere always brings me out of a slump.
Ohhh, I just LOVE Buffy. It was around this time about 3 years ago that I watched all of it on DVD. Season 3 is a real, real treat. I think Season 5 might be my favourite. Oh, I’m so excited for you that you get to watch it all for the first time!
Knitting slumps happen, I think often without any explanation at all. I bet your travels will get you out of the slump with lots of refreshment.
Lucky you, just discovering Buffy. I’ve watched it a few times (have it all on DVD) and if I’m stumped for something to watch while knitting, I don’t mind watching it again — it stands up pretty well to repeated viewings. And then, when you’re finished all 7 seasons, there are 5 seasons of Angel!
Your trip sounds wonderful — you must be counting the sleeps.
You sound a little depressed. I think it’s pretty common at this time of year, too. Can you get outside to walk or run? That usually helps me…
And I know what you mean about feeling a bit overwhelmed about the online life. So many options… I’m restricting my communities to the blog stuff, Ravelry, and LibraryThing (which is very low demand). Just have to resist all the others, or they’ll crush me.
Your trip sounds great! I’m hopefully going to the UK in September myself.
Dude, just wait until you get to season six of Buffy. It’s wild.
Love me some slouchy hats!
isn’t buffy great? i never watched the show on tv, but i’m up to season 4 now and i’m watching angel in tandem.
i know about you mean about inspiration lacking. once i finally make it through all the blogs, i’m too tired to blog myself. i figure it’s better to blog when i feel like it than to force myself and be ultra boring.
Hi Erin,
I have been following your blog for a while now when I searched for Venezia and found your extremely beautiful version of it. I never got around to knit it, but hopefully someday I will. I am sure too that travelling with your sister will do wonders for you. Just wanted to let you know that I live in Copenhagen and if you would like some tips on great yarnstores, culture, shopping and anything else about the city and Denmark you are more than welcome to drop me an e-mail. Copenhagen is such a wonderful city and I am sure you both will like it.
Best regards, Jennie
I LOVE that you are watching Buffy. My Boston friends tried to convince me to watch it but I never did. But now that I have a completely sane friend who watches it, I might have to check it out
Glad you had time for an update! I am sooo jealous of your upcoming Europe trip… London is still one of my favorite cities! How fun!
Amen to the blahs, and to the macbook mirror! Could lead to a fun meme… or not.
What!? 17 days! I can’t stand it-I’m so jealous. I’m with you on the blah thing. February and March are really hard months for me. Good thing I can knit now
I made a post yesterday, but apparently it got lost, maybe it was because I put in links and addresses for yarn stores here in Copenhagen, in case you were planning on seeing some.
And yes I agree, modern life has made things a bit complicated actually. I have around 250 RSS feeds! But I am getting into spring cleaning, so that’s a good sign that I am regaining control I think! Still, since I have got yarn in my head, also don’t hesitate to write me an email for yarn store info, there are 4 in the city center very close to one another, and three within 15-30 mins walking distance. Oh and just have to add this question: have you already been told you look like Lorelai Gilmore?
I don’t subscribe to anything on the net – if I want it I go and check it out when I feel like it. Otherwise it goes from being something I ejnoy to a chore – a bunch of things I have to get to or get through.
I don’t have a stash to speak of for the same reason.
I’m amazed by how much vigilence is required to keep things I really like from taking over and becoming things that stress me out rather than being things that contribute to my life and my enjoyment of it.
I bet your upcoming travels help you refocus and get back on track!
1) Buffy The Vampire Slayer is the greatest show that has ever been on television.
2) A sister trip to Europe sounds fabulous! I’m very excited for you!
Gosh, you do have a busy online life, I can understand how you would get a little overwhelmed sometimes! I’m off to England in July, I’m from there originally, and I’m taking hubby and my 7yr old daughter to visit the family again
I know you’ll have a blast on your trip with your sister.
What a fun trip! I’m sure you’ll perk up – travel is so nice and stretching. Buffy is the best! I’ve been knitting to the Amelia Peabody audiobooks lately, they’re great too. There are so many lovely yarn shops in the Bay Area, have fun! Let me know if you want any hints for the Bay:-)
You’re too funny! If you like Buffy, you should definitely get into Angel too! I miss those shows. The wit is awesome – kinda like GG!
Yay our fabbity fab trip! I cant wait. We are going to have a most diverting time!
Hey, hang in there! And good luck with the slouchy hat!
You look adorable in your photo booth pic, although I am always a sucker for a great self-portrait. And yes, all of your upcoming travels will do you good! I still can’t believe you’re going to hang out in Europe with Kara for 17 days. So. Not. Fair.
I feel the same way about the internet sometimes! It’s so frustrating too because I do all of this stuff to relax! ugh!
I always thought that people who watched Buffy were strange, but after sitting down for a few episodes I realized that I LOVE IT!! I’m actually thinking about re-watching the entire series.
I have been feeling that way too and I totally agree that it is the weather. Something about the change of seasons really drags us down. But with spring and your wonderful trips to look forward to, I’m sure you’ll be feeling better soon. Just take it one day at a time.
And Amen to all the comments about having to keep your technology in check. It is overwhelming sometimes trying to keep up and I think setting limits is a good idea, if only it were easier to do. So many fun things to investigate online.
Hey, just as a side note, I find it’s pretty common to get a little downtrodden the first year of move. You have left your old support network behind, you haven’t yet had time to build up a new one… it happens to me every time I pack up and move to a new place. The first few months are exhilarating because everything is new and feels like a challenge! Then life gets easier, you know where to find a post office and you’re taking on more important and stressful stuff at work… but you haven’t had time to find those really good friends who can drag you out of the house and make you relax and enjoy life.
All that to say… give it time, and don’t berate yourself for feeling a bit lackluster. You’ll get back in the swing of things soon!
There you are!!! Just found your new blog and I love your knits, especially the Gathered pullover. I know what you mean about trying to keep up with the internet stuff. I have downsized mine lately a bit, not the blogs though, I love them!
dude, somehow i was not updated with you new blog link until today!! i cannot believe all that i’ve missed out on! i LOVE your gathered pullover… from eons ago!
and yes, sometimes blogging can feel like such a chore… but it’s all a cycle, no?
so happy to be back in the loop though, so get ye to posting
haha jk!
Welcome to your new digs. I am *so* envious that you get to traipse all over Europe and the UK that I am literally green! :/
Love your new blog, sometimes I’d love to give Blogger the old heave-ho…hope you have a fantastic spring escapade!
The Internet can be completely overwhelming…which is why I am all about simplifying my life. I have no Internet at home – so am limited to duration of work 5x per week. And I don’t have cable, so only get Netflix, which also limits my tv time. It has made me read and do projects and not have that overwhelmed stress that accompanies endless options!!! Cut down on your e-mail accounts. You need 1 personal and 1 work. Consolidate. My overwhelm comes from my mom giving me 100 magazines AT A TIME that she saved up. Then I compulsively need to read them all — at one sitting. I say thig because it is like the blog subsciption thing…there could be something that you are missing!!! Just do it if it gives you joy. PS You are visiting me in San Fran tomorrow!!!! xoxox Mer
Yeah, I feel pretty overwhelmed with the internet, too…
Your trips (especially the Europe one) sound great!
